Named after famous abolitionist Frederick Douglass, Douglass School's significance lies in its construction as a segregated public school for African American children of Kokomo and later forming memories across cultural lines.

 The school stands as evidence of the importance of education and the key for success is to have a solid education. 

 Preserving this treasure will allow stories to be told from a painful past which will inform us for a productive future.
